League Rules

Rule #1 in the league is: Just relax!
This is a loosely organized group of guys that just wants to have some fun playing flag football. Sure we are all competitive, but just let it go. It's just a game. No arguing or fighting will be allowed.

• Team managers are required to keep their players under control. If a player is consistently causing problems he can and should be voted out of the league by a majority vote of the team managers.

• There are no reffs provided by the league, so come to an agreement between yourselves on questionable plays. If need be just replay the down. Remember, it's just a game, and we are just here to have some fun.

Game rules:

• This is 8 on 8 flag football. There should be no more than 8 players per team on the field.

• Your bench can not exceed 4 players. Therefore, a team roster can be no larger than 12 players.

• A players flags must be on either hip and accessable to the tackler. (Example: A players flags can not be positioned behind them or under a long jersey.)

• Teams are responsible to protect their QB. Defensive players do not have to count apples to blitz the QB. The QB can not cross the line of scrimmage as a runner unless the opposing team's player crosses the line of scrimmage on a blitz.

• Line players are allowed to make contact. We do not want players getting killed out there, so know your limits and know when to just give up on a block. Do not chop-block or block opposing players in a manner that is likely to injure them. Take it easy.

• Defensive secondary players should limit their contact after the first 10 yards from scrimmage. Yardage should be awarded to an offensive player if interfered with during a catch. Yardage should be marked at the spot of the interference. (Keep in mind we are not pro players and some bumping does happen. Penalties should only be enforced if the contact was obvious.)

• Each player is playing at his own risk. There is no real organization here, this is pick-up flag football. Just a bunch of guys that agreed to meet to play some football. You are all on your own.

• There are no set formations. If you feel like you can pull off a 7 receiver set go nuts. Traditionally there are 3 on the line, 3 to 4 receivers and or a running back and the QB. Do what you feel works for your team.

• If a team does not have enough players to field an 8 player team by 15 min. after the designated start time, that team forfeits the win to the opposing team.

• Each team member must wear the team shirt or jersey while on the field. Teams may not have the same color. Each team must pick a team name and color. First come first serve.

• Players from one team are not allowed to play on another team, unless agreed upon by both teams playing. Keep your players on your roster. If you cant field a team to play and want to use a player from an opposing team you must either forfeit the win and just continue for fun. (Which is what we are already doing.)

• Field dimensions: We mark the field with cones. We play a half width field. The first down marker is mid field. You only get one first down. The end zone is on either end of the field from the 5 yard marker to the end zone line. (See graphic below)

  1. Perhaps if a team doesn't have 8 players there by the 15 minute mark, they can have the option of either forfeiting OR playing the game with whatever number of players they have.

    1. I want teams to commit to 8 players. That's why the roster size is set to 12. We have a team that is planning on driving all the way up from Little Falls, so I want to make sure it's worth the drive for everyone. It should not be that hard to get 8 guys on the field.
